Maxwell was a soldier in the British Army and a close friend of Emma M. Lion.
History[edit]
Little is known of Maxwell's history beyond that at some point he joined the British Army. Around 1880, while serving in Afghanistan, he was killed in action. His remains were buried in Afghanistan. In April of 1883, Maxwell's brother, Evelyn, writes to Emma that his father is considering exhuming Maxwell's remains to have them interred back in England.[1]
Relationships[edit]
Emma M. Lion[edit]
Maxwell and Emma were close,[1] however it is unknown if their affection for each other was romantic in nature. Emma greatly mourns Maxwell's passing. She was not present at his funeral, so a part of her believes him to still be alive.[2] On several occasions, she believes she catches glimpses of him in men who turn out to be strangers.[3][2]
