The Personal Library of Emma M. Lion contains all of the books in the possession of Emma M. Lion.
History[edit]
At the beginning of The Unselected Journals of Emma M. Lion, Emma does not own any books of her own. This is due to her being forced to sell all her parents' belongings in order to attend school[1][2] and because the library of Lapis Lazuli belongs to Archibald Flat, it being the sole inheritance he received from his late wife, Emma's great aunt.[3] Thus, she is forced to rebuild her library from scratch.
Books in Emma's Library[edit]
The table below lists all the books in Emma's library, in the order she received them.
| Title | Author | Acquisition | Diary Reference | Notes | Link |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Paradise Lost | John Milton | Found in the garret. Later stolen back by Archibald.[4] | Emma: Vol. 1, 5 March 1883 | Project Gutenberg | |
| The Complete Works of William Shakespeare | William Shakespeare | Owned and illustrated by Declan Lion. Saved from being sold due to Arabella's foresight. | Emma: Vol. 1, 31 March 1883 | Project Gutenberg | |
| The Bible | Various | Owned by Emma's Mother. | Emma: Vol. 1, 31 March 1883 | Due to the period and location of the series, the edition is most likely a Modern Christian Translation of the King James Version from the late modern period (c. 1800–1945). | Project Gutenberg |
