Help:Namespaces
Every page on The Reed and Rite is filed into a certain namespace. You can see what namespace you're in by looking at the URL for a page. (For example, you should see Help: in the URL on this page, indicating it is in the "Help" namespace.)
Here are some common namespaces of which to be aware:
- Main
- This is the namespace where all of the articles are located. This namespace doesn't use any prefix, just the article name. (Note that all page titles are case sensitive.)
- User
- Every user can create a user page (and subpages). These page titles begin with
User:.
- File
- Images and other media files may be uploaded to The Reed and Rite for use in articles. They each get their own page in the "File" namespace. There you can see metadata about a file. These page titles begin with
File:.
- For more on uploading and using files, see Help:Images.
- Category
- Every page should be sorted into categories. They help keep everything organized and easy to find. (Think of them as similar in function to hashtags on social media.) Category pages are created on the Category namespace. The page will automatically populate with links to all the pages that reference that category. These page titles begin with
Category:.
- For more on Categories, see Help:Categories.
- Template
- Template pages are where we create, define, and document templates to be used in other pages. Templates are basically shortcuts to help simplify tricky or common formatting needs. For example, the infoboxes you see on the top right corner of many articles are created with templates. Take a look around and you'll see them in use everywhere. These page titles begin with
Template:.
- For more on Templates, see Help:Templates.
- Summary
- Summary pages contain chapter-by-chapter plot summaries for each book. They also contain chapter-by-chapter breakdowns of the characters that appear or are mentioned in each respective chapter. These page titles begin with
Summary:.
- Talk Namespaces
- For every namespace there's an associated Talk namespace as well. This is where the related Discussion pages are found.
- Other Namespaces
- The list above isn't comprehensive, so you may notice other namespaces (like "Help").
