Declan Lion is a painter and the father of Emma M. Lion.
History
Early Life
Declan was born to an English father and an Irish mother. His father was a gentleman and was subsequently disinherited for marrying a shopkeeper's daughter.[2][disputed] Declan was raised in Ireland, but maintained strong family connections in England, despite being disinherited.[2]
Inheritance of Lapis Lazuli
Declan's aunt, Emma M. Lion, received her brother's inheritance after he was disinherited, which inheritance included Lapis Lazuli House and its living. As Emma loved her older brother and adored Declan, she named Declan as her heir. Emma later married a man named Archibald Flat, but died soon after the marriage from influenza. Upon her death, it was revealed that she had made no provision in her will for Archibald besides willing him the books in the library of Lapis Lazuli. As Declan's father was generous, and considering Declan was quite young at the time, it was agreed that Archibald would be allowed to live in the house and enjoy its living until his death, at which point Declan would enjoy his inheritance. This agreement resulted in Declan having to make his own way in the world.[2]
Marriage to Emma's Mother, Birth of Emma
At some point prior to 1863, Declan met Emma's Mother.[citation needed] They later married, and Emma's Mother gave birth to their daughter, Emma M. Lion (named after Declan's aunt), in January of 1863.[3]
Death
Declan died sometime around the beginning of 1876.[1] His exact cause of death is unknown.
